What I can do for You.
Psychotherapy & Counselling
what's the difference?
They are similar in that they are both forms of ‘Talk Therapy’.
During psychotherapy and counselling, the therapeutic relationship that develops between the client and myself is central to the success of working together. However, the work we conduct within that space is where the main difference lies.
COUNSELLING
Counselling is generally short-term in nature and quite structured. In counselling, myself and the client will deal with a specific issue from their current life. This work usually lasts from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the issue.
PSYCHOTHERAPY
Counselling sometimes reveals that the issue you’re dealing with is long-standing, perhaps more profound and complex than you first thought. Psychotherapy goes deeper and helps in those cases. Therapy sessions could last anything from a few months to several years. It happens that a client might start with counselling for a specific issue and after a while, decides to continue with longer-term psychotherapy.
Typical issues I help with are
- Depression
- Abuse
- Conflict & Bullying
- Relationship Issues
- Poor Self-Confidence
- Inner Child Work
- Compassion Fatigue
- Family Carer Stress
- Anxiety
- Grief and Loss
- Coping Skills
- Women’s Issues
- Life Transitions
- Panic Attacks
- Carer Burnout
This list is a sample of some of the many issues I help clients with. If you’d like to chat with me to see whether I can help you deal with what’s bothering you, please feel free to contact me confidently, and we can talk about it.

How are therapy sessions provided
In Person - Face to Face Therapy
In-person or face-to-face therapy is the traditional way of conducting psychotherapy and counselling sessions. We work together in a comfortable, safe environment. We sit in the same room, some distance apart and talk. During therapy sessions, your privacy is important and protected. No one will overhear our conversations outside of the room.
Fees
Face-to-face sessions are payable in full at the end of each therapy session, directly to the Therapist. However, if you prefer, you can make payment beforehand via the payment portal on this website, or I can send you my BIC & IBAN numbers for inter-bank transfer. You’re free to pay each week or several weeks in advance, whichever suits you best.
Session Length
Each session lasts 50 minutes and ideally will take place weekly, at the same time each week.
Locations
I conduct my face-to-face practice from the following centres:
- Pearl Counselling, 6 Railway Street, Balbriggan, North County Dublin – Book to arrange an appointment
Online - Therapy via Video or Phone
Experience and international studies have shown that online therapy is just as effective as face-to-face therapy. It’s surprising how well this works. It’s different, but it’s not less. Many of my clients find it easier to open up about their previous experience of trauma online than they do when face to face.
Secure and Private
Life isn’t always straightforward. Perhaps you’ve decided that you’d benefit from therapy, but for some reason, you can’t make it to my practice rooms; that’s ok. We can conduct our sessions by video link using a telemedicine platform called doxy.me or by phone (if preferred.). Doxy.me is HIPPA and GDPR-compliant telemedicine software. State-of-the-art security and end-to-end encryption ensure data integrity and privacy.
You won’t need to download software. You will click on the meeting invitation link I email you before the session begins. You can access this from either your laptop or smartphone.
Fees
Online therapy fees are paid in full before the session begins. There’s a payment portal on this website to facilitate payment. Alternatively, I can send you my BIC & IBAN numbers for inter-bank transfer. You’re free to pay each week or several weeks in advance, whichever suits you best.
Please feel free to contact me if this approach appeals to you, and I’ll talk you through how it works and answer any questions you may have about it.
